Activity 1 : Initiating the calculator
To set the calculator to use the standard course settings, turn it on and enter the following key sequences:
(CLR) (Setup) (Yes)
(SETUP)
(Norm)
In the first key sequence, 'CLR' (which is short for 'clear') is the second function that is performed by the
key, and 'Setup' is an acronym for the on-screen menu option for this
number. "Yes" is the name of the option on screen corresponding to key

1.1 Basic calculations
Basic calculations are input through the calculator in exactly the same way as they were written on paper, as shown in the following activity. The calculator will display the calculation that you enter. When you press
the Enter button, the result is displayed in the lower right corner of the screen.

It is possible that in part (4) in the above task in the above activity, there was a problem with the calculation was too long to be displayed on the calculator display. In these situations, the symbols '

1.3 Powers
There are numerous keys on the calculator that let users to carry out calculations with power. For smaller powers like cubes and squares, there are designated buttons
in addition to

1.4 Making corrections
If you've made an error in entering a keystroke in the calculator then you may use the editing options to rectify your error.

Other kinds of calculator errors you might come across include:
- "Math Error", if the calculation you have entered is mathematically sound, but the result is not able to be calculated. For instance, attempting subtracting zero, or when the result is too large for the calculator to manage.
- 'Stack Error"', which indicates that your calculation is too complicated for one go . In such situations, try breaking the calculation into several smaller ones.
Section 4 outlines how you can do this.
In these instances in these situations, the calculator will show an identical screen to the one in the Syntax Error, allowing you to either abandon or change your calculation.
